Kate Butch: Wuthering Shites - Norwich Theatre Playhouse (27.03.2025)

Drag sensation Kate Butch delivers an hour or so of pitch perfect comedy as she demonstrates the art of 'shoehorning' in order to create a jukebox musical based on the songs of Kate Bush.

For fans of the legendary elusive artist (that's Kate Bush, for the avoidance of doubt), the show is choc-a-block full of hilarious references and renditions of the singer's biggest, and lesser-known songs. Butch takes us on a brilliantly bizarre journey in an attempt to unravel the meaning behind the often batshit crazy lyrics.

But even for those less familiar with her work - and Butch is unapologetically judgemental of anyone who only knows her from Stranger Things - this is still a riotously funny and entertaining show. The reason for this is that, fundamentally, Butch is a very talented performer: great vocals; superb comedic skills; and easily holds the audience in the palm of her hands. I left with a massive smile on my face, so it was a job well done by her.

Prior to the main event, we were treated to a brief warm-up set from stand-up Ciara O'Connor. Her style was rather at odds with Butch's headline act insofar as the delivery was much more subtle, perhaps at times rather too understated, but there were some great gags interspersed in her routine making it an enjoyable watch.

Kate Butch: Wuthering Shites tours the UK until mid-August - why not get a ticket for the show in Luton perhaps?!
